How we work

Bailiff Support Team does two things. It publishes information about enforcement agents and the rules they work under. And it helps people dealing with bailiff debt. Our team takes the enquiry and makes the first call. A debt adviser gives the advice. A debt solution provider puts any solution in place.

Who we are

Bailiff Support Team is a trading style of Care About Money Ltd. Care About Money Ltd (FRN 962287) is an appointed representative of Promethean Finance Limited (FRN 662425), which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

We are not a bailiff company, a law firm or a charity, and we are not part of any council, court or government body.

Who does what

  • Our team takes enquiries and makes the first call. It is provided by a partner company that works with Care About Money under contract and also runs this website. The team listens and takes details. It does not give advice.
  • Care About Money’s debt advisers give the debt advice: the options that may be available, what each one costs and what the drawbacks are.
  • Debt solution providers put a debt solution in place, where a person chooses one. We do not directly provide debt solutions.

What happens after an enquiry

  1. A short form

A few questions about where things are up to with the bailiff, the kind of debt and roughly how much is owed, then a name and a phone number.

  2. A call from our team

A person calls from a UK number, listens, and takes some details about the whole situation, not only the bailiff debt.

  3. Advice from a debt adviser

A debt adviser explains the options that may be available, what each one costs and what the drawbacks are.

  4. A referral, if a solution is chosen

Where a person chooses a solution, and agrees, they are referred to one of our trusted debt solution providers, who put it in place.

  5. The person decides

There is no obligation to go ahead with anything, at any point.

How we are paid

We do not charge for an enquiry, for a call with our team or for speaking to a debt adviser. A call to 0161 660 0876 costs whatever a call to a UK landline costs on the caller’s phone plan.

We receive a fee if a person enters into an agreement with one of our debt solution providers. That is how the service is funded.

A debt solution itself may have fees. They are explained in full before anything is agreed.

Nobody has to use a paid or commercial service to get help with their debts. Free, impartial debt advice is available from MoneyHelper, StepChange, Citizens Advice and National Debtline, and using one of the free services does not reduce the options available.

What we cannot do

  • Stop or pause enforcement ourselves. Only the creditor, the enforcement firm, a court or a formal scheme such as Breathing Space can do that.
  • Take payments towards a debt. Payments go to the enforcement firm or the creditor.
  • Act for a bailiff company. We are not affiliated with any enforcement company.
  • Promise an outcome. What is available depends on a person’s circumstances and on the creditor.

Things worth knowing about debt solutions

  • Not every debt solution is suitable for everyone, and eligibility criteria apply.
  • Fees may be payable for a formal debt solution. They are explained in full beforehand.
  • Debt solutions can affect a person’s credit rating and, in some cases, their assets or home.
  • Some solutions involve a period of reduced payments, or none, during which interest and charges may continue to be added.
  • Individual Voluntary Arrangements, Debt Relief Orders, Protected Trust Deeds and bankruptcy are recorded on a public register.
  • Some debts cannot be included in some solutions. Magistrates’ court fines and child maintenance are common examples.
  • Not all solutions are available in all parts of the UK.

Who puts a debt solution in place

A debt solution is put in place by the provider, not by us. Sarah Houston is licensed as an Insolvency Practitioner in the UK by the Insolvency Practitioners Association. All work undertaken by Arkle Insolvency Ltd and Sarah Houston (IP No. 30590) is subject to the Insolvency Code of Ethics.

Details are only passed to a debt solution provider with the person’s agreement. What we share, and with whom

How this website is written

  • Every statement about the law is taken from legislation, court rules or official guidance, and each page lists its sources.
  • Every figure comes from one checked list, so a fee or a time limit cannot say one thing on one page and something else on another. The list was last checked on 7 October 2026.
  • Pages about a named enforcement company state only what can be verified from official registers and the company’s own published information. We are not affiliated with any enforcement company.
  • Pages describe what the rules are. They are general information, not advice to any one person. Advice is given by a debt adviser on a call, once a person’s circumstances are understood.
  • If something on the site is wrong or out of date, email info@bailiffsupportteam.co.uk and it will be checked.

Free debt advice is available

These organisations give free, impartial debt advice and are independent of Bailiff Support Team. Nobody has to use a paid or commercial service to get help with their debts, and using one of the free services does not reduce the options available. Their advisers can also ask an enforcement firm to extend a notice period or apply for Breathing Space where it fits.
